Hi Everyone Just in case you missed this on the homepage I thought I would just bring this to your attention. HealthUnlocked is an additional resource for members. It is an area for posting blogs, asking questions, taking part in polls and more; just click the link for more info. Several of us have been adding blogs for the last few weeks to get things up and running, and boy is there a fantastic standard of writing and some fascinating posts. Thanks Emma at NRAS for getting this set up for us Other health groups have their own areas that have become very successful. So why not sign up, join in and be part of this new venture? If you don't you could be missing out! Lyn x

Hi Lyn
Just to say I have joined this new outlet for our RA, it looks really good and I am sure I will find it very informative and another support network !
Thank you for getting this going, and Emma for all her help.

Thanks for this Lyn, the hospital review section and survey is a good idea to see the differences of care we all receive or do not receive in some cases should i say! It appears that most/some of us do not have access to a podiatrist (should we), will this help us in the long term with protecting our joints in our feet? The blogs are useful and interesting too.

Hi Emily I think it's useful to see a podiatrist before problems occur otherwise damage may already have taken place and may require surgery to correct deformities. Podiatrists are great for advising about suitable footwear offering the correct support, general footcare issues, and giving you tell tale signs to look out for to prevent ongoing problems. Either your GP or rheumatologist should be able to refer you. Worth asking! Lyn x

Just did the survey on my Hospital , and it had "No" as the main answer all the way down but yet still had 3 1/2 stars , i think the poll should have been explicitly about the care provided WITHOUT taking into consideration the hard work done by the Consultant , Nurse and Other staff under very difficult conditions , as i feel that people have put a higher mark there because they believe it will reflect on their Health care professionals. That in effect makes the poll pretty much useless if you go by the star rating alone. Just a thought :) Rich "The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

I agree, Rich. I also wonder about the sense of posting the same stuff in more than one place?

HealthUnlocked is primarily a blog site rather than a 'chatty' forum. It was set up by NRAS as an additional resource for anyone who might like to try something a 'little different'. It won't appeal to everyone (I find it quite hard blogging about RA) but for some it may be their forte and they may prefer that style of writing to forum style. Rich, it might be worth posting something on the healthunlocked site about the Polls if you feel improvements can be made to better represent the information that is acquired. Lyn x

I don't like blogging about myself but it's interesting reading other people's blogs. Ailsa was asking people to e-mail her about changes to their rheumatology services so I did, but realised afterwards I had called it health unCUT !! Senior moment...... could you imagine the blogs if it was uncut? Doreen xx

Hi Lynn, :) I have sent feedback to Health unlocked , as it is a dangerous thing to have a star rated system that is basically unqualified , and, it appears, does not show all the comments posted . (we shall see what they say when they reply) I agree organisations have to have as many outlets as possible to enable seamless access to the facebook generation, and other forms of media ..although this is not for me there are many who live in facebook land, and also tweet like a tweeting tweety thing ;) Will keep an eye on it to see how it develops :) Before i was diagnosed and presumed i had fibromyalgia , i joined a site called "Patient's like me" and loved it , you could log in a weekly report on health , log down drugs changes etc etc .. Now that was a wonderful tool . You could also print out you own health report that you could take to your doctor etc . Unfortunately .. they do a lot of illness and condtions but not RA (i have put in a request for that) . Any one got some finance to start a similar one up for RA? Rich :) "The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an eggs-and-ham breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."
